From New York to the world

Did you know that this popular cocktail has its roots in New York City? Yes, this cocktail continues to be a hit at parties since the 80s.

It is said that the Cosmopolitan cocktail was first created at the famous Odeon restaurant in the TriBeCa neighborhood of New York. It was invented by Toby Cecchini, a well-known bartender, when he wanted to create an elegant and sophisticated but refreshing and easy-to-drink cocktail.

The Cosmopolitan cocktail gained popularity in the 90s, thanks to the television series “Sex and the City.”

Carrie Bradshaw‘s character, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, was known for ordering a Cosmopolitan in every episode.

This led many bars to start including it on their menus, and it became a symbol of pop culture.

Cosmopolitan Preparation

The original cocktail was made with vodka, Cointreau, lime juice, and cranberry juice, which gave it its characteristic pink color. The original recipe did not include sugar, but many bars started adding a touch of sugar syrup to balance the acidic lemon taste.

Vodka

A versatile alcoholic beverage characterized by a neutral flavor profile, making it a perfect base for cocktails.

Cointreau

A sweet and bitter orange liqueur, produced in the French city of Angers. It is made with sweet and bitter orange peels, neutral alcohol, and sugar.

Lime juice

It is a common ingredient in cocktail preparation for its unique and distinctive flavor and aroma. It adds acidity that contrasts with the sweetness of cranberries.

Cranberry juice

Cranberries contain antioxidants, vitamin C, and fiber, making them an excellent remedy for preventing cardiovascular diseases.

Often, the Cosmopolitan is served in a Martini glass with a lime slice or an orange twist as decoration. However, it can also be served in a cocktail glass or even a whiskey glass, depending on customer preferences or the place where it is served.
