White Wines: An Oenological Journey at My Way
In the world of oenology, white wine is widely recognized for its unique characteristics derived from a variety of white grapes that impart its distinctive hue. This exceptional wine is the perfect companion in gourmet culture, ideal for pairing with fish, seafood, cheeses, and white meats. The white wines on the menu of our restaurant come from four denominations of origin, making them perfect for dining in Barcelona with any company. In this article, we’ll share the origins of each white wine we offer at My Way Restaurant.
Take your first steps into the world of oenology with us!
What Are White Wines?
Various experts, such as those from Vinetur, classify white wines as those derived from white and red grapes with an earlier maturation process, avoiding lengthy fermentation like other types of wines. Depending on their aging process, you can find young wines, aged wines, and vintage wines, each increasing in price with the time spent in the bottle. Generally, the most coveted bottles are aged between three and five years.
Historically, white wine spread from the Middle East to Europe. Interestingly, it was prescribed by doctors and monks as a “medicine” for various ailments.
What Are the Denominations of Origin of Our White Wines?
A Denomination of Origin is an official designation referring to the wine’s place of origin. Each white wine at our lounge restaurant is classified according to its region. For more information on types and varieties of wines, check out our article on oenogastronomic journeys.
White Wines from Rioja
La Rioja is one of Spain’s autonomous communities with a long winemaking tradition. Its white wines stand out for their quality and diverse grape varieties. This denomination, the oldest in the Iberian Peninsula (1925), boasts vast vineyards. Envite and Seducción Envite wines are greenish in tone, with fruity and elegant aromas. Their fresh taste captivates with a soft and pleasant flavor, perfect for any time of day.
White Wines from Rueda
Rueda, a designation in Castilla y León, is famous for its harvests of Mencía, Garnacha Tinta, and the white varieties Verdejo, Viura, and Palomino. Palacio de Bornos, Melior Matarromera, Shaya, and Melior wines offer a floral flavor, blending fruity and acidic essences. These are ideal if you want to experience a white wine with character.
White Wines from Rías Baixas
Bathed in the Atlantic climate, Galicia’s wines are the result of a winemaking tradition perfected by the monks of Cluny. Wines from Rías Baixas are crafted with varieties such as Albariño. Our top choice, Martín Codax, features a harmonious blend of flavors and fruity aromas that add freshness and fragrance. This regal drink is perfect for an elegant evening.
