In this article, we want to pay tribute to the city that captivated Frank Sinatra and inspires our restaurant by sharing 3 fascinating facts you may not know.

A Multicultural City

New York City is home to over 8 million residents. This massive population makes it one of the most multicultural metropolises in the world. In fact, 36% of its residents were born outside the United States.

This cultural diversity also brings a wealth of languages: 50% of the population speaks a second language, amounting to a total of 800 different languages.

This multicultural vibe is also reflected at My Way, alongside Mediterranean cuisine with international influences.

Iconic Districts and Neighbourhoods of New York

Geographically, New York is divided into 5 major boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, The Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island. Each borough boasts over 40 neighbourhoods, each with its unique identity. Below, we highlight some of the districts and neighbourhoods that have inspired our group menus:

Harlem

Harlem is one of Manhattan's most iconic neighbourhoods, renowned for its music, vibrancy, and cultural richness. It is home to a large African-American community and is an excellent place to enjoy jazz clubs.

Queens

Queens is New York's largest borough and is famed as the most ethnically diverse area in the world. It was the epicentre of jazz in the 1940s, with artists such as Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, and Count Basie.

Manhattan

Manhattan is one of New York's most famous boroughs. This island at the mouth of the Hudson River is home to major attractions such as Broadway, the Empire State Building, Times Square, Central Park, and the financial heart of the United States, Wall Street.

Soho

Soho is a neighbourhood in Manhattan known for its bohemian atmosphere and as a hub for artists. It features art galleries like DTR Modern Galleries and William Bennett Gallery. The facades of its buildings maintain a characteristic industrial charm, with visible fire escapes.

Music and New York

Until the 1930s, New Orleans was the central hub of jazz. However, the closure of the Storyville district in 1917 prompted many musicians to move north to cities like Chicago and New York.

As a result, jazz gained prominence in New York neighbourhoods such as Queens, Harlem, and Brooklyn, where musicians honed their craft in jazz clubs.

Frank Sinatra

Although born in New Jersey, Frank Sinatra spent much of his childhood in New York City. He loved the city so much that he dedicated his iconic song New York, New York to it.
